The Joseph Peles Coal Company’s underground coal mine project in Garrett County, called the Casselman Mine, includes over 4,600 acres and 15 million tons of recoverable coal. With the estimated production schedule, the mine may be open for over 20 years. Our company looks forward to being a new employer in the Granstville area. Furthermore, we look forward to providing a postive economic impact on the local and state economy.
The coal mineral lease falls within the geographic area known as the Northern Appalachian Coal Region (NACR). The coal seam of interest of the Company is the Upper Freeport. The NACR region has been a producer of bituminous coal for well over 100 years and is characterized by mid-ash, mid-sulfer and high BTU coal. This type of coal is utilized by power plants, cement plants and paper mill industries.
